Good thing that you don’t really get spiders on a sail boat.

I really enjoyed your presentation, Arabella! I loved how you mixed fun facts and stories with science.

Hi Arabella
I really enjoyed your presentation although I’m actually surprised you are scared of spiders!
I’m not at all scared of spiders although I have to admit the huge bird eating spiders we saw in the Amazon rainforest were a bit too aggressive for my liking. We wiggled a branch at the burrow entrance and it came charging out ready to defend its home, was the size of a dinner plate.
I have a friend who breeds various Tarantula species and we took our little nephew Brody to see them and one walked on his hand which was so cool.
We must all learn to appreciate the important role they play in their ecosystems.
Australia probably has the most dangerous but we also have some of the nasties like the Black Widow. They often live under the windowsills and sometimes inside my aviaries where they spin their small, dense webs in the corners although they don’t seem to bother the birds.
We have the hand-sized magically coloured Golden Orb where the females are huge and the males are really tiny.
They have big yellow webs hanging between the trees in the garden.
The bark spiders are really interesting . Every morning they eat up the web they spun the night before and then hide on the bark of a tree while they sleep for the day. That evening they start all over again. They are my favourites.
Have you read the book Charlotte’s Web?
You will def change your mind about them if you do.
Big hugs to you all
Love
William
Hello Uncle William!
I’m so happy that you liked my presentation. I would be so scared if I met the bird-eating spider! in shanghai, our class book was charlottes web but we didn’t finish it.
